Inside the translucent porcelain cube a paper-thin square of porcelain
is suspended midway between front and back. Its dimensions correspond
to those of the opening, as if a section of the front of the box floated
back into the box. Because of fine details such as cracks, the panel has
a clarity and specificity which the box lacks. It also appears to have
a specific age, whereas the rest of the box is comparatively anonymous
and timeless. In different types of light, a range of interpretations
between flat illusion and three-dimensional object become possible.
