The left side of the aperture is a painted surface, lighter in tone than the box. The right side is open, so that one sees through the translucent box. The tonal relationships shift in relation to each other as one rotates the box through a range of light conditions, creating a series of illusions and revelations. The dimensions of the box are mathematically exactly between a square and half a square.
